Longevity is not only about living longer; it is about living those years well and actively. The World Health Organization (WHO) calls this “healthy ageing” and defines it as the process of developing and maintaining the functional ability that enables wellbeing in older age.
Healthy ageing according to WHO
WHO describes functional ability as the capabilities that let people be and do what they have reason to value: meeting basic needs, learning and making decisions, being mobile, building relationships and contributing to society. The United Nations declared 2021–2030 the Decade of Healthy Ageing, and WHO leads its implementation.
What does well ageing mean?
As Tor Thermal uses the term, well ageing brings together movement, nutrition, sleep and self-care routines so that ageing can be lived more actively and comfortably.
Movement in daily life
WHO recommends that adults do at least 150–300 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity a week (or 75–150 minutes of vigorous activity). For older adults, it also recommends muscle-strengthening on 2 or more days a week and varied activity focused on balance and strength on 3 or more days a week. Ask your doctor what level suits you.
Tor Thermal's longevity approach
At Tor Thermal, longevity programs are planned to combine current wellness approaches with the relaxing effect of thermal water. Each program is planned as a holistic approach covering nutrition, movement, thermal routines and mental balance. For hiking, yoga and pilates, see Activities.
