Five thermal and nature destinations around the Sea of Marmara are often compared with one another: Armutlu, Yalova Termal, Gonen, Sapanca and Bursa Cekirge. What each is known for, and who it suits
What the tables show is this: of the five, Armutlu is the only one that combines thermal springs with Sea of Marmara coastline and a direct scheduled sea link from Istanbul. The springs of Yalova Termal and Gonen are inland, Sapanca is a lake destination, and Cekirge sits inside a city. That is a difference of combination, not a ranking: if you do not want a coast, the other four are strong choices.

What to compare before you choose
- How you travel: if you are coming without a car, destinations with a scheduled sea service stand out; if you drive, the bridge and ferry options decide the journey time.
- Sea, lake or city: the theme of the holiday may be coast, nature or an urban stay, and thermal springs do not come with all three.
- How you stay: in a hotel you pay for each stay; with a title-deed timeshare, the share covering a set period of an apartment is registered on the title deed in your name. For the difference, see What Is a Title-Deed Timeshare?
- Season: rainfall and sea temperature can change which destination fits.
- The data on the water: temperature and composition figures vary between sources. Rely on official institutional data and on measured values rather than on health claims.
Every destination fact on this page comes from that destination's own official public source, listed below. No facility, hotel or business is named.
Where Tor Thermal fits
Tor Thermal is a project in the Armutlu row of the table, offered on the title-deed timeshare model. It is not a hotel: the share covering a specific usage period of an apartment is registered on the title deed in your name and you use that period every year. The thermal pools and the other wellness services are planned services; the current status is on the Longevity and Wellness page. Apartment types: Listing.

Frequently asked questions
Armutlu or Yalova Termal?
Yalova Termal lies 12 km from the centre of Yalova, in a valley on the slope of Samanlı Mountain, and is known for its historic bathhouses; it has no sea frontage. Armutlu is a coastal district with a direct sea bus from Istanbul. Choose Armutlu if you want the sea, Yalova Termal for a short classic thermal break.
Gonen or Armutlu?
The springs of Gonen are in the town centre and hot, given as 71-82 °C by the provincial governorship, but the town is inland and reached from Istanbul by road only. Armutlu is closer and on the coast.
Is Sapanca a thermal destination?
No. Sapanca is a freshwater lake destination; the Ministry's Culture Portal describes the lake, its basin and its surroundings. If you are looking for thermal springs, the other four fit better.
What makes Bursa Cekirge different?
At Cekirge the thermal springs are inside a large city. The Culture Portal gives the temperature of the springs between the city centre and Cekirge as 54-84 °C, and the bathhouses date back to the Ottoman sultans. It suits visitors who want city amenities alongside thermal springs.
Which of them can I reach from Istanbul without a car?
Armutlu has direct sea buses with İDO from Kadıköy and Yenikapı and with BUDO from Eminönü. Yalova Termal is reached by ferry to Yalova and then 12 km by road, and Cekirge through Mudanya. Gonen and Sapanca are road destinations.
Which is best for a family holiday?
It depends on the theme. Armutlu for families who want the sea and thermal springs together, Sapanca for a lake and nature, Bursa Cekirge for a city and sightseeing, and Gonen or Yalova Termal for thermal springs alone.
